One day, I was wishing I had a vest to go with a specific shirt I was wearing that day and then happened to glance at my
Want to make the cutest, easiest fashion piece ever for yourself? You'll need four things...a yard of knit fabric, fabric scissors, 10 minutes of your time, and a long sleeved shirt from your closet.
Seriously, that's it. And don't worry. You won't be cutting up your long sleeved shirt.
Spread your knit fabric out and lay your long sleeved shirt on top of it, pulling the sleeves out to each side.
Cut a rectangle out that's several inches longer than your shirt and goes from one sleeve cuff to the other as shown below.
Fold down the top of the shirt a few inches and make a mark on the fabric above each sleeve seam.
Fold the shirt down again until the fold is past the bottom of the sleeves. Make a second mark on the fabric straight below the first one as shown.
Fold your shirt back up or toss it carelessly to the side...it's your choice. Grab your scissors and cut two slits in the fabric starting at each bottom mark and going up to the top one.
Done! The trick is that knit fabric doesn't fray so you don't have to hem it or finish the edges! Feel free to do so if you want to, but how easy is this?!?
You can find a huge selection of knit fabric on Etsy. If you're looking for buffalo plaid like what I used for my girls' vests, you can find it here.
