Pretty much every store you go to has them on the shelf, or maybe they don't because they're sold out. I have several friends on Facebook that post pictures of their latest coloring designs. There are articles, blog posts, and reviews extolling the therapeutic and relaxing power of coloring as an adult. The nostalgia of getting out colored pencils or markers is also a huge draw for us old fogeys.

My confession?
I hate coloring and it stresses me out.

I was out shopping one day and saw an adult coloring book with beautiful floral designs and thought, "Why not?" Into my cart it went, along with a pack of fine tipped markers. That evening, after the kids went to bed, I opened the untouched pages of the coloring book and laid out my brand-new markers. 15 minutes into coloring, I just wasn't feeling it. I put the markers back in their box and got out the kids' coloring pencils. Nope. That didn't do anything for me either. Actually, I was getting kind of frustrated because I kept coloring outside the lines, picking colors that I regretted seconds later, my markers were bleeding through the paper, and the colored pencils weren't sharp enough no matter how much I sharpened them. So, I put everything away and watched Criminal Minds on Netflix while playing Candy Crush on my tablet. Now that relaxed me.

If adult coloring books are your thing, that's great for you. As for me, I'll stick with sewing or designing fabric to get in touch with my creative side.
Have you tried adult coloring books? What did you think?
Agreed!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely agree. I know so many people friends and family that color and I can't do it. It just stresses me out. I play Sudoku. Sometimes I crochet. But mostly I sudoku.
ReplyDeleteI love sudoku too!
